How Does Training Work?

For Students

To make sure you're fully prepared for each shift, Shiftly strongly recommends students to complete a short training video created by the restaurant prior to the shift. That way, you can walk in confident and ready to get started with no extra training needed on-site.

1. watch the video

Each restaurant provides a quick video that explains:

  • What your job will be (ex: dishwashing, bussing, hosting)
  • Where to go and who to check in with
  • How the space is set up (kitchen layout, cleaning supplies, etc.)
  • Any key rules or expectations unique to that restaurant

2. confirm you understand

After watching the video, you'll simply press “Yes, I understand” to confirm you're ready for the shift. It takes just a second.

3. get verified

Once you complete the training, your profile will be marked as "Training Verified," which shows restaurants that you're shift-ready.

For Businesses

We know your time is limited–and training new workers for just one shift can be frustrating. That's why Shiftly lets you create a short, role-specific training video that students are strongly recommended to watch before their shift.

1. record a quick training video

Film a short video (even on your phone) that walks through:

  • What the shift involves (e.g. dishwashing, bussing, hosting)
  • Where to enter and who to check in with
  • Where supplies are and how to use them
  • Any specific do's and don'ts you want them to know

Most videos are 2-4 minutes long and help eliminate repetitive explanations.

2. upload & tag by role

Once the video is uploaded and linked to a specific role (e.g. "Dishwasher: Fridays"), any student applying for that shift is strongly recommended to watch it before they can be confirmed.

3. student confirms understanding

After watching the video, students click a simple “Yes, I understand” button to confirm. Their profile will show they’ve completed your training, so you can skip the orientation and jump right in.
